Cheers to Year 53

I count my years by December 30ths. Cheers to Year 53, and Happy Birthday to Me!

In the last days of December, I like to reflect and adjust. Or try to adjust. Why not enter the New Year with my mind right? Except in recent days, the more I turned the events of ’22 over in my brain, the more I heard nothing but crickets. I drew no real conclusions. Wasn’t it Socrates who said something like “The more I learn, the less I know”?

My thoughts from a year ago:  

“In fact, there’s no better time than a new year or a birthday to let bygones be bygones and let it go. A gift to myself. Peace. I Believe our struggles strengthen us. I suppose that’s my 2021 takeaway. Strength. Perseverance. I made it. You did, too. As for 2022, I choose Hope. Maybe we’ll all be surprised.”

As for 2023, I’ll stuff my pockets with the necessary ammo and wish you all the same:

Faith + Gratitude = Peace + Hope

  2. Hi Crystal, I am just in from shoveling the latest gift of snow and yours is the first post I read. I hope you have a wonderful 2023. Thank you for your posts this year and I always welcome reading them because they give me perspective. I am glad your pockets have ammo but the ammo is gratitude, patience, family, friends and hopefully wonderful health.

  11. Happy everyday to you but especially your birthday! We’re always working under the shadow of naivety, it shades everything we encounter, but it also protects us from the harsher rays of life.   35. Best wishes, Crystal, on a new year, both for the calendar and for you.

    Dreamers appreciate the fresh start and use that inflection to change trajectory and even priorities. Excellent. We do that, don’t we?

    All the same, it’s useful too, to consider those goals which have withstood that natural impulse to change everything. Your own inventory includes Hope and Peace. They’re fine things to keep. New dreams should enhance them, not replace them. Always building, right?

    By the way, when I was about this weekend, I spotted a sign wishing passers-by “A Joyous and Happy ‘2023’.”

    “2023?” Another pair of unnecessary quotation marks!

    Unless…That business knows “2023” is just an illusion. Actually, it’s 1978, and disco is very much alive. In our office the beat never stopped.
