The Gulls

The Gulls of Galveston
The gulls float on lifted wing,
soaring through fields of blue,
crossing the skies above everything—
worries and the overthinking,
judgments and the milieu.

The gulls rise above everything.
What about you?

  1. Are those gulls? I thought gulls were seagulls. I do remember in Florida when on holiday I enjoyed the pelicans and the diving birds in the Gulf of Mexico. I really like birds and that’s part of the reason I plant so many sunflowers. I like how it attracts the small birds like yellow tanagers. Take care, ♥

    1. Hi David! I’m not a bird expert, but I’m fairly certain these are gulls. I looked up seagull and found that the word is colloquial/informal. Otherwise, gulls are seagulls. Enjoy your yellow tanagers and your weekend!

  2. Inspiring, Crystal!

Truly, when gulls soar above “it all,” they take me with them – in spirit, at least. Though gulls are largely coastal, a few do follow the rivers inland. Thus, even here, the skies echo at times with their calls.

Hearing them always puts me in mind of the beach. Always, for a few moments at least, an instant vacation. If not in location, definitely in reverie.

Thanks gulls (and to you, Crystal), for taking me to a very nice place!

      1. The beach doesn’t look distant on Google Earth, but getting there is another story.

Fortunately, Crystal, our dreams have wings, don’t they? They glide far above tangled traffic and its shouted, honked frustrations. Long before the first heat-exhausted driver pounds the horn and yells, “Come on!,” the sparkling surf splashes our knees.

Quicker than any wings, even, are our imaginations. Still, gulls are what send our minds skyward and beach-ward in the first place. They ignite the launch.

  3. Thank you for sharing a part of your world and lovely photos!!.. watching the gulls has a calming affect…. I don’t try to rise above life because “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain”. (Author Unknown)… 🙂

    Until we meet again..
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
May green be the grass you walk on
May blue be the skies above you
May pure be the joys that surround you
May true be the hearts that love you.

  4. Impressive images! Living most of my life in Montana never allows for seeing anything like this. Nature’s ceaseless journey reminds us that we can rise above our own circumstances.
