Just Take the Step

All it takes is a step,
then another and another,
until momentum takes over
and propels you forward.

The steps we don’t take
are the ones we regret.
Just take the step.
Don’t worry or fret.

Our paths, like our steps,
always lead to the next.
Billions of us on journeys
with paths that intersect

Plan all you want.
At some point you’ll see
what happens in life
might be destiny.

“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.” (Julius Caesar, Act I, Scene III, L. 140-141).

  1. I love going for a walk everyday with my dog. I enjoy that time so much. Literally it ( taking steps) are easier to do but figuratively I can hesitate. Just take the step don’t worry or fret – I need to apply that a bit more.

  2. I love walking, as it is so refreshing to get outdoors and pray. But I don’t do enough of it. I sit at a desk for 9 hours a day and drive in the car for 2 hours a day. I need to get creative and find ways to squeeze in some steps. Thanks for the nudge! And I like the poem!

  3. Until a couple of years ago, I walked an average of 10,000 to 12,000 steps a day, most on my late-afternoon walk, but age and bad knees have slowed me down considerably. But I’ll never stop as long as I’m able. Besides the benefits to one’s physical health, it’s a great mood elevator.

  4. That poem was absolutely beautiful. ❤
I don't walk nearly enough, but after my son spending almost the entire first month of his young life in the hospital so far, I want to walk a million miles with him in the warm Texas summer once he is released.
