Observe.

On Observing A Blossom On The First Of February 1796
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Sweet flower! that peeping from thy russet stem
Unfoldest timidly, (for in strange sort
This dark, frieze-coated, hoarse, teeth-chattering month
Hath borrow'd Zephyr's voice, and gazed upon thee
With blue voluptuous eye) alas, poor Flower!
These are but flatteries of the faithless year.
Perchance, escaped its unknown polar cave,
Even now the keen North-East is on its way...

Even the sweetest of flowers weather storms.

Observe your own thoughts.

A wise woman once told me (click the link to see)—If you are angry, most likely your mind is stuck on something in the past. If you are anxious, you are probably worrying about the future.

Stop and smell the roses.

It’s not about roses, you know. It’s about staying present. Seek beauty and goodness, and you will find more of the same. And so I send you good vibes today. May the rest of April bring you joy, fulfillment, perspective, and hope.

  1. Thank you for sharing!!… think in today’s world for whatever reason people become so busy and concentrating on succeeding that they forget to live life… why I chose the path least traveled… 🙂

    Until we meet again..
    May your day be touched
by a bit of Irish luck,
    Brightened by a song
    in your heart,
    And warmed by the smiles
    of people you love.

  2. Love the Faulkner quote! I never thought about it like this before, “If you are angry, most likely your mind is stuck on something in the past. If you are anxious, you are probably worrying about the future.” But it’s so true, thanks for sharing these!

  3. Observe, observation. Thanks for this much-needed reminder, Crystal. I reserve my weekends for gardening when I can devote my full attention to observing the beauty and uniqueness of each plant I touch. So many lessons to learn!

    1. Can you believe I had to look back at my C to remember? Goes to show I allowed that practice to lapse. Thanks for the reminder. I just might try it again. Meanwhile, I’ll listen for the grass to call and my inner voice to say—I dare you.

  4. Your advice really is valuable, Crystal. When we observe, we can’t help but to be engaged; indeed, to be a vital part of proceedings.

If our hours are spent stewing over the past or fretting about the future, we are, by definition, unobservant. Detached, remote, and ultimately, irrelevant. God forbid!

  5. I have been very anxious today and yes I think I am worried about things in the future. I know I have absolutely no control over them and all I really have to do is be. Thanks for this reminder.
