That Crazy Thing

That crazy thing
I thought might happen
did not,
and that’s okay.
For 2020, I have enough.
Who needs extra
cray cray?

But the possibility
taught me,
in the way
possibilities do,
that you never know
until you try.
And so on to the next—
as opportunities arise.

Champions adjust—
my new mantra,
when things don’t go
my way.
And so I adjust—
my thoughts and plans,
my words and days.

  1. Two favorite quotes about being crazy.
“I don’t go crazy. I am crazy. I just go normal from time to time.” Anonymous.
    and
“I don’t necessarily call it “crazy”, I call it happiness with benefits.” Daffy Duck
    Have a crazy day. Jerry

  2. Love it! I learned both the meaning and usefulness of the term “cray-cray” from my children (now grown), so I smiled when you used it (nice rhyme with day, too). I guess I also learned from them how to deal with change, disappointments, and randomness — and how to change one’s point of view to look on the positive side. Love this of yours, works rhythmically and in it’s “light starkness” for the great message. Well done and thank you, Jane

    1. Hi Jane! “Light starkness” — I love that. Earlier this week I used the cray-cray bitmoji, so I had it on my brain when rhyming with okay. It was sort of an inside joke with myself. Happy to hear it gave you a smile! I like to say the struggles strengthen us.

  3. Thank you for sharing!!.. I’m not crazy, just me being me… “The greatest challenge in life is to be our own person and accept that being different is a blessing and not a curse”..( Kilroy Oldster)… 🙂

Hope all is well in your part of the universe and life is all that you wish for it to be!.. 🙂

    1. Dr. D., thank you! I love it when my friends use my own words to lift me up. My son went back into the behavioral health hospital yesterday (for the first time in five years), so you timed this response perfectly.

  5. Great observation, Crystal, about adjusting course. Wonderfully hopeful. Indeed, you have plenty to spare.

To some degree, this is necessary of anyone living life – that is, it’s required of us all. However, only those like yourself, finely-tuned to life’s possibilities, understand it’s more than just a burden.

Indeed, life may zag today, when you expected it to zig, but perhaps it’s just in preparation for something better down the road. Someday, perhaps, “Thank goodness I steered myself in this direction.” Maybe you needed to do precisely what you did to be here, just where you’re going going to need to be.
